Trees for Hawaii – proposal

Objective:
We are planning to grow and freely distribute 1000 trees (breadfruit, avocado, banana) per year for 3 years to urban Maui and Oahu residents. Our purpose is to build capacity in the enhancement of the urban tree canopy to benefit local residents, particularly those from underserved areas. A positive impact will occur as they grown their own food. We will build upon our past experience of building locally managed nurseries, strengthen existing partnerships and community involvement. We plan to focus on implementing a robust tree planting tracker, a tree establishment validation system which can record planting events through using a smartphone application, as well as follow-up phone surveys.
